Steve Grubbs joined his father’s agency, United Insurance Service, Inc., in the summer of 1985 after earning an advanced degree in insurance from what is now St. John’s University. Before returning to West Michigan, he spent five years in New York City attending school year-round and working at insurance companies and reinsurance brokerages—where even weekends felt like spring break. Raised in Byron Center and shaped by his early years on the family farm, Steve began a career that would span decades, managing or owning UIS for most of the past 30 years.
Now part of Reno Agency, Steve continues to offer clients the same trusted guidance and broad carrier access that defined his family’s legacy since 1956. He and his wife Laura still live in Wayland, where they raised two children and will celebrate 40 years of marriage in 2026. Outside of work, Steve enjoys time with his three grandsons, weekends at his hunting cabin up north, and reconnecting with college friends in the Carolinas—where his love for the ocean earned him the nickname “Ocean.”
